Myths & Legends

Our Ghost, Mr. Davis
If you have ever visited the Plantation House, you may have felt the presence of our very own residence ghost, Mr. Davis. He was the former owner of the home, and is said to have committed suicide in the 1920's.  He supposedly loves women, flirting with them by blowing in their ears or touching their backs. They say he is not fond of magnolia's, and knocks them off of the fireplace mantel. Other strange occurences have also been reported.

Ernest Hemingway's Pen Set

A dear friend was the director of a Cultural Assimulation Center in Tulsa, OK. Most her clients were among "Boat People"--a few "Marialita" Cuban "Boat People" applied for assistance. She found living quarters and a job for one Cuban who presented her with this pen set, swearing he was a gardner for Ernest Hemingway and had stolen it. He asked if she would please return it to him. Of Course, Fidel refused any correspondence at that time. She kept the pen, then placed it in the loving arms of the Plantation House.

The Valentine Massacre Whiskey Flask

The Plantation House was also gifted a whiskey flask that was taken from the body of one of the Valentines Day Massacre Victims.

If you have any special antiques that you would like to have "live in Infamy" at the Plantation House, please contact us. We promise to display them with dignity.
